MY NAME IS DICK WEATHERLY . I am 68 years old, married to my wife Sue and have been retired since 2016. We have been in Lago Vista since 2007. My wife and I moved here from Midland. I am the father of 2 and most important the grandfather of 5. I was born raised, and educated in Texas and have lived in Texas all but 10 years of my life. I practiced anesthesia as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for 40 years. My anesthesia training was in the U.S. Army and I served 7.5 years and reached the rank of Captain. For the last 20 years I was the Director of Obstetrical Anesthesia for two city/county hospitals. My duties included staff management, budget, capital improvement, and long term planning involving multiple departments.
One thing that gives me a great sense of pride was being involved with helping more than 30,000 women with delivery of their baby.
I have always been involved in the communities where I have lived. Multiple school/church activities, PTA, PTA council, Special Olympics, American Red Cross, Easter Seals, and many health fairs, and other healthcare organizations. I have several interest including fishing, hunting, shooting (single action cowboy and target), water sports, woodworking, RV travel, golf and most important GRANDKIDS. I am also an ordained Baptist deacon.
Politically I am a conservative. I believe in helping a community maintain strong family values, open and transparent government. One of my most important goal is to maintain a fair open mind to all citizens. I believe that the main and most important function of the City Council is the proper control, management, and maintenance of all city assets to help maintain and improve the quality of life for the city. In 1986 I was elected to the McAlester, Oklahoma City Council for the 5th ward. It was a learning experience and a challenge. This has given me a good grasp of what a city can and cannot do and I have a very solid grasp of the time and effort needed to make things happen. I am willing to spend the time and make the effort to help move our city forward.
There are too many things that I am still studying and learning about our city to say what my main goals are, but the following are the thing that will guide my actions. First, a conservative approach. Less government is usually best. Second, I will work diligently for proper management, preservation, and safety of all city assets. This includes the library, city hall, swimming pool, airport, streets, and equipment for every department, golf course, city staff, and budget. The amenities of our city have been a draw for many years and they need to continue to be. Third, it is essential to have a positive can do attitude as we do planning both short and long term. If we all work together (the council, city staff, and the citizens) we can take steps to maintain the quality of life that draws people to this area and makes Lago Vista the place we are happy to live.
Lastly, I promise an open mind and open ears to all citizens. I will make a true effort to be fair and up front in all my dealings with the citizens of the City I have come to love above all others.
